About Mt Ida Miniature Horses
I have been breeding Miniature Horses since 1986, with the original bloodlines based on the well known imported stallion "Dell Tera Hitler". My original mares were Glenshee Abba Gale, Glenshee Les Scatos and Glenshee Goldie Locks (all sired by Dell Ters Hitler and all showed appaloosa coat patterns), and Glenshee Baby Smurfette and Glenshee Golden Smurfette.
My two original stallions, Mt Ida Cougar and Mt Ida Leonardo were both sired by the stallion Glenshee Mr Spot E. Cougar and and Leonardo were both well marked Cat A appaloosas. With these two stallions and five mares I have based the bloodlines for Mt Ida Miniatures. To bring new bloodlines into our breeding program we research bloodlines and show records to ensure we are breeding to stallions which will complement our breeding aims.
By out-crossing to unrelated stallions we have introduced several outside bloodlines into our stud, Orion Light Vant Huttenest, Rowdy and Bond Flashing Fury to name only a couple. Out-crossing has strengthened our base colours and added a few new patterns into our breeding programme.
Here at Mt Ida we pride ourselves with breeding horses in miniature and believe our horses have the speed, strength, beauty and mental attitude of their larger cousins. Throughout the years of breeding miniature horses I have based my bloodlines 100% on horses with pure American breeding.
Today at Mt Isa we still carry a strong appaloosa line but continue to have a wide variety of other colours and patterns such as tobiano, overo, splash, sabino palomino and buckskins. Every horse we have in our stud has been bred by Mt Ida.
